Estrid review
Getting silky smooth and sustainable with my new best friend, Estrid
Ahead of last weekend, I tried out the ever so popular Estrid razor. Having seen the silky razor advertised by some of Instagrams finest - including dream-duo Sophia and Cinzia - the brand was pretty hard to escape from the get-go. So, having seen it everywhere and with a new nagging eagerness to be more sustainably mindful when shopping for EVERYTHING, I ordered my own planet-friendly razor that was soon to be, as suggested by Estrid, my new best friend.
Estrid is a sustainable, vegan razor brand founded by Amanda Westerbom. The razor itself has 5 blades that instigate a close, fresh shave which feels completely effortless. The razor glided so softly over my skin I didn’t even think it had worked. Encased in cocoa butter, aloe Vera and shea butter, Estrid razors can confidently prize themselves on their vegan attributes and smooth shave that leaves no trace of irritation, something I always suffer with.
Estrid is on a mission to not only keep ladies' skin smooth and subtle but to get rid of the pink tax. What is the pink tax? The pink tax is simply the higher price point of products marketed towards women than men. Estrid razors are half the price of their competitors, and already a much lower price point than their male market companions. From these low price points, Estrid donates a portion of each sale to the foundation Fawcett Society who work on behalf of gender equality and women’s rights at work here in the UK since 1866.
The starter kit I had ordered for £13.90 arrived at my door in less than a week, I didn’t even have time to use my old shabby razor one last time. The pack included a steel handle, wall holder and two cartridges as well as the added travel case. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make the coolest kids in town jealous with my space purple razor handle, as when it arrived, I received a peach one instead - but for such an amazing product and important cause, this was completely forgivable.
The items were perfectly packaged with little to no excess materials. What I loved most was the catchy quotes emblazoned on the packaging of each item, including…
“Your body is beautiful. It is the most incredible, amazing thing you will ever own and there isn’t any other like it. You’re one of a kind.” So important in a world where comparison is almost natural.
Body positivity and inner strength is a trait I adore about this brand. It’s utterly refreshing to see such a variety of body shapes rocking their natural body hair. Estrid makes a conscious effort to normalise that yes, women do have body hair and no, we shouldn’t feel any less confident when it peeks out of from beneath our tops or knickers. In past years excess body hair on a woman has been rather taboo, but Estrid is truly changing this negative stigma through their full-frontal photographs capturing inspiring women.
I do feel as though if I let my hair grow out to blooming bushes of beauty, it wouldn’t look as fresh and picturesque as the Estrid girls. Luckily, they will send four replacement cartridges to my door every three months following a questionnaire I completed that confirmed I, like most women may I add, shave every few days.
All in all, I adore this new vegan razor brand. Having used it religiously since it arrived I’d happily preach the product to fellow friends and family. Heck, I’d even buy them their own as birthday and Christmas presents, and not even for lack of a better gift. I even ordered one for my boyfriend's house, but it’s fine because all shipping is free and climate-compensated. It’s really just another reason to order another adorable travel case and get my hands on the purple this time around.
