70s House Manchester is exactly what it says on the tin; a location home in the centre of Manchester that’s dripping in 70s realness and curated vintage. Who lives in a house like this? I hear you ask yourself. You’ll find Estelle Bilson is the proud owner of the brilliantly bright home she describes as bold, nostalgic, orange and FUN. Whilst keeping 70s babies and interior enthusiasts jealous over on Instagram, Estelle has also been battling it out against four bidders on the BBC’s The Bidding Room, hosted by Nigel Havers

When it comes to 2021 trends, it’s no surprise that Estelle’s hoping for more homes to be beaming with colour, all in the hopes that it brightens up residents day-to-day spirit. Estelle noted that as we spend more time locked down in the confines of our homes, we will feel compelled to fill our spaces with a dash of colour and spirit. “Colours will start to emerge and be more prevalent,” she said.

Just like clothing, colours in our personal spaces have a high tendency to affect our moods on a daily basis, which is why it’s so important to know the impact your colour choices have on your mood. Potter about the house: Memor Studios

The Pediment Mirror by MEMOR Studios, a dream item in any home

The Pediment Mirror by MEMOR Studios, a dream item in any home

Memor Studio is an online shop selling carefully hand-moulded pottery. Founder Maxine works with a mixture of different designers and homeware brands to make exclusive items that are completely uncommon in comparison to other brands in its field. Memor Studios also creates custom orders of your choice upon contact. Memor Studios have recently been playing with the idea of a new range of mirrors, as hinted on their Instagram. But it’s their staple pottery pieces that we’d love to see in homes throughout 2021 (as well as get our own mittens on!)

I for one adored making my own pottery last year and was eagerly inspired by Memor Studios who recycle glass, tiles, coins, shells and literally anything else that’s lying around (you can even send them your own pieces). Using a handful of my own odds and ends, I made a very wobbly, well, I don’t-know-what. I guess you could say a vase? But that would be pushing it. Check out my recollection of the process.

For 2021 I truly hope to see more pottery gracing the shelves of homes everywhere, especially handmade vases. I, myself, will be sending some items off to be moulded professionally (As I’m definitely no Molly Jensen when it comes to pottery) If you’re not so into the lux look of clay, definitely check out the incredible handpainted work of Hairy Yetti over on Instagram, as well as Frigg that makes beaded vases (lush!)

We like to think that Bubblegum Dreams is what would be if Groovy Chick grew up and specialised in second-hand treasures. Bubblegum Dreams is all about pops of colour and designs that are reminiscent of our childhood bedrooms, polished off with some luxury to fit our adult spaces. “At Bubblegum Dreams, we celebrate little cuties from the past that deserve a new home - for a more sustainable way of shopping,” Says founder, Laure.

Bubblegum Dreams adores the late 80s and early 90s aesthetics and hopes that this trend will follow us into this new year (enveloped in a celebration of colour, shapes and textures). However, possibly comfortable in the knowledge 80s and 90s will always live on, Laure hopes that DIY and craft will triumph in 2021, noting, “With so much time spent at home, 2021 will see an explosion of DIY: from tiled objects (like we do!), candles, mirrors to rugs and ceramics.”

As Laure noted in our conversation, the various lockdowns have allowed everyone to explore their creative side. We hope that this year will see our little community’s spaces fill up with personal, hand made items.  A bit stuck? Allthepeachesplease is a fashion design graduate and artist who shares her DIY projects online in hopes to inspire others. We love her!

Kitsch chic: Scene by Chloe

Scene by Chloe’s Naughty Piglets Cruet Set, definitely a statement piece to add fun to any room

Scene By Chloe is an emporium of beautiful and joyful vintage objects for your personal space.  If you’re looking for an out-of-the-box plate (say, one with a huge lobster engraved into it, maybe?) or if you have a thing for ceramic animals, Scene By Chloe is the place to be. There’s so much to drench yourself in over her Instagram, but we adore her combination of colourful and fun items the most... and we’re not the only ones. Her awe-inspiring collection of items has been featured in the likes of Stylist and Refinery29.

We asked the joyful founder and collector of all things full-of-fun, what she thinks will be a staple this year. “In terms of trends for 2021, I'm going to say it's important to have a splash of Kitsch. Whether that’s a silly mug for your Zoom calls or a cruet set in the form of your favourite animals, these are pieces that will inject some character to your surroundings and joy to your every day.”

By definition, when it comes to homeware, Kitsch items are those that aren’t necessarily high art but have become popular for their humorous or weird-and-wacky look within the home. Because of their amusing quality, they’re the perfect item to inject some vibrancy and quirkiness into your home and uplift even the bleakest of days “I'm obsessed with Dalmations and I just found a mega Kitsch vintage Dalmation picture I can't wait to hang, every time I look at it, It brings out my inner child!” Said Chloe.

If you’re in need of some more Kitsch inspiration, be sure to follow Residents Objects and The Dahl House who also have the flair for fun decor.

Millefiori specialise in lighting like this beautiful round and oval white Murano ceiling light

Millefiori is one of my ultimate favourite Instagram accounts and as well as being a glassworks technique, it also means a thousand flowers. As well as having an unquestionable eye for detail and a strong connection to the trends of the time, Millefiori has a way of making you feel like a kid in a candy shop just by scrolling through their Instagram.

Specialising in vintage interior derived mainly from Italy, Millefiori has a showroom in Copenhagen and specialise in vintage Murano table and ceiling lamps, partnered with far fewer mirrors, glasswork and other furniture. Representing that of a classy Willy Wonka chocolate factory,  Millefiori currently showcases bulbous gumdrop-like lights and tall elegant vases that twist at the tops like that of a sweet wrapper. It’s a wonderland of glasswork and bright, curving lines that would make you loopy.

Millefiori is THE place to look for the upcoming trends in glasswork and lighting. By the looks of their incredible collection thus far this year, we’re in for a sea of loud light streaming from petite, round and uncommonly colourful vessels. That’s no surprise though, following the popularity of gentle glasswork and the delightful mushroom lamp of 2020.

There’s mush room for this next trend: Pearly Interiors

How could we not feature this insane mushroom candle by Abigail Bell Vintage

How could we not feature this insane mushroom candle by Abigail Bell Vintage

Mushrooms! As a food, they’re a little marmite. But as a household silhouette cropping up in candles and lights? Oh, we just can’t get enough! In October, I wrote a piece on starting your sustainable journey with delicate decor. Whilst writing this piece, I began noticing the fungi hoarding up the Instagram home page, and it was no surprise when Daisy, the delightful founder of Scouts Goods, noted the mushroom lamp as her favourite micro-trend. “The mushroom-shaped design has roots dating back to the 50s and the 70s, periods in interiors that people are obsessed with right now, so it’s no surprise that these have become popular again.”

Although many wouldn’t notice, Pearly Interiors has posted some delish images of the coolest mushrooms in the interior world, including this mushroom candle from Abigail Bell Vintage and emblazoned with colour it is the happiest little yellow salt and pepper shakers. There are also plenty of images of the mushroom lamp in their natural habitats, including this one captioned “that mushroom thooo”. Oh and these mushroom plates… and a rug! I rest my case.

As for Pearly Interiors itself, the account was founded in March 2019 by Sade and is run as a hobby. Pearly interiors has found popularity by showcasing the incredible interiors of others, and has become the first point of inspiration when it comes to personal spaces and what to fill them with.
